In a perfect world, iVY would want everything to reflect ‘green’—to reflect growth. From the roots of 4c hair to the knotted ends of waist-length braids, her music mantra is “just to keep going and growing.” From Atlanta, Georgia by way of “The Garden State,” iVY draws her influences from many places. “I love traveling and I’ve gotten to go so many cool places, so I just try to pick up a little something from each stop. I’m definitely a souvenir person, for sure.” iVY is one of three in the Gard3n music trio. Keeping true to the elements, iVY’s sound is earthy and mild-tempered. Citing Neo-Soul, R&B and jazz as her genre influences, each of her tracks is a bit different but never strays too far from home. Growing up on The Jacksons, Oleta Adams, DeBarge and Spyro Gyra, her interests range. iVY wants to create a contemporary and unique spin on her childhood soundtrack and introduce a different way of looking at artists’ capabilities. “I think it’s hard sometimes to say what kind of music I make, because when I’m in the process it’s purely creation—not really rap, R&B or anything. The final sound just is.” Continuing to grow in Gard3n and in nature, it won’t be long before iVY blooms.
