New Orleans native, LSU graduate, and Shreveport resident, IW, has never been fond of attention or following the crowd. When asked about the lack of trendy fashion, the reply was fairly simple: “It doesn’t excite me.”
IW’s fourth album, titled Under Construction, is his best project to date. Listeners may find themselves hypnotized by IW’s unique way of painting vivid pictures with unconfined rhyme patterns.
In 2021, IW released two separate singles featuring Louisiana legends: “Old New Orleans” features @Kidd Kidd and “Love Living” features Young Bleed.
IW hasn’t let up in 2022, being just as productive. Free You is beyond literal, while Make it Right featuring BoogDawg is a definite vibe.
The most recent release featuring @Foogiano, only further highlights IW’s unique ability to narrate.
IW is more commonly known as Mr. Hunter to those he’s taught in the classroom over the past 15 years (English and Reading). “It took years for me to grasp the reality that I could not separate my two passions. Over the years, as much as I tried to separate my life in music, from my life in the classroom, the more it became obvious that the two were one in the same.”
He thanks his students for the persistent push to post more music. IW explains, “I got tired of my students saying, ‘Man, Mr. Hunter, you need to be a rapper.” He unblinkingly declares, “I’m here now, and I’m not looking back.”
