Music has been a consistent pillar of singer-songwriter J.D. Hicks’ journey. His diverse influences and passion for life bring a unique delivery to his style of rock.
“I remember sitting at the piano when I was three years old and playing melodies of popular songs by ear very quickly,” recalls Hicks. “It was an eye opener that awoke my interest in music.” It wasn’t until after high school that Hicks dove deeper and really took an interest in writing and performing original music. “I think Van Halen’s 5150, and more specifically the song ‘Dreams,’ was my first aha moment when I thought ‘yeah, that’s powerful stuff, and I think I can do that.’”
Throughout his life, art has been a pivotal part of J.D. Hicks. It’s now all coming full circle as he releases his debut single, “Say Hello.” The cemented groove and anthemic refrain of the new song, which sparks sonic parallels to Pearl Jam or early ‘90s melodic Metallica, act as an introduction of sorts to his musical offerings.
Growing up in the midwest during the 1980's had a profound impact on his musical tastes and sensibilities. Early influences include bands like America, Fleetwood Mac and Van Halen to benchmark storytellers like Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel and Cat Stevens, to name a few.
