New album: Warp Threads
Release Date: 2025-05-05
On Warp Threads, J. Mann weaves feeling and fantasy into a fabric of tangled indie songs for life’s loose seams. Set for release on May 5, 2025, this nine-track album continues J. Mann’s series in which each record draws inspiration from a different art form: Too Much Theatre (2005) channelled the stage, How to be Ambivalent Negotiator (2007) took cues from books, Ten Animals (2018) leaned into visual art, and Take the Wheel (2022) reflected on cinema. Now, with Warp Threads (2025), J. Mann turns his gaze to fashion – not as a surface aesthetic, but as a lens for deeper exploration.
The title refers to the vertical strands in weaving – “warp threads” – an anchor that holds everything together while the weft dances through. Themes of transformation, perception, and identity ripple throughout, as J. Mann threads the tension between the seen and unseen, the public and private, the made and unmade.
The result is a record that hums with texture and tension – equal parts stitched-up and unravelling. Warp Threads captures a looser, more spontaneous J. Mann – one who’s not afraid to tug at the seams.
