Urban's work embodies the warmth of the familiar and the freedom that comes with the willingness to rediscover unusual beauty. Liberating yet disarmingly honest, a listener will find Urban's music sonically accessible while layered in subtle sophistication.
Jack Urban grew up around the familiar tunes of on and off Broadway, but the freedom he heard in jazz changed him. Moving from New York to Chicago at an early age, he found the windy city the perfect place to learn and make discoveries in performance art, new music, and free improv. After collaborating with local composers and performers, Urban soon found a voice experimenting with sonic sculpture, contemporary electronica, and traditional instruments. Urban's music was more than just something to talk about; it was something to feel. A founding member of the Snoids, Infant Dots, and Three Threes, Urban always searched for the catalyst to reach emotions not expressed in words.
Urban's latest release, Hidden Glory, with Glauber Ribeiro, is an adventure that is serious fun – in a chill kind of way. Backed with Americana and Brazilian rhythms, Ribeiro's saxes and flutes haunt and console as they weave in and out of Urban's rich keyboard tapestries.
Urban loves food, travel, writing, and making music. He lives near the Windy City with His wife, Sheila.
