Jacob started playing music when he was thirteen. He grew up around bluegrass music because his grandmother played the bass and was a member of a family band. He enjoyed listening to music with her as well as traveling with the band and being in the musical environment. She taught him about all of the first generation influences and gave him the bug to play.
He started out on guitar and eventually learned the banjo and bass. He played with several local bands throughout the Southwest Virginia area until joining Rich in Tradition in 2012. Jacob played bass and sang with them until 2018. They released one project during his stint with the band for Mountain Roads Recordings and won two ACMA awards. In 2019, Jacob released his first single as a solo artist in an effort to start promoting his original material.
Jacob is married and lives in North Carolina. He is a graduate of Appalachian State University and Queens University of Charlotte. He is a middle school assistant principal by day.
