This name was common to a number of persons in the Franco-Flemish region during the early to mid sixteenth century. The works attributed to Jacotin may indeed be the compositions of one person but the plethora of names associated with this "individual" make this possibility unlikely. The chansons attributed to Jacotin number greater than sixty. Thirty were published in collections of Attaingant. The general characteristics of these works include four voice arrangements, superious or tenor melodic lines, animated rhythms and often repeated notes. Alterations occur between chordal passages and polyphonic imitation. With the exception of the chansons, Jacotin was also attributed compositional genres including magnificat settings and a few motets. The motet "Interveniat pro rege nostro" (Intervene for our King) was composed upon the occasion of the death of Louis XII of France. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
