Jake Schrock is a hardware-based electronic musician from Dallas, Texas. His music is heavily influenced by sounds of the 70s and 80s, utilizing a large amount of instruments and tools from the same era on his recordings. He moves seamlessly through minimal synth, early new age, balearic, and library music.
Schrock dove into the world of synthesizers at a young age. His love of early electronic music led him to learn more about how this music was produced and soon had a bedroom studio of his own filled with vintage synths and drum machines. He began producing and recording music at home in the early 00’s. At age 19 he attended an audio engineering school with friend and fellow synth composer Michael Stein (S U R V I V E, Stranger Things) where he sharply honed his studio engineering and production techniques.
After a few self-released recordings, Jake released his debut full-length Tropical Depression on Austin’s Holodeck Records in July of 2018. The album has been described as “a lush vintage synth odyssey with a timeless, transportive cinematic vibe” by Gorilla Vs Bear and “dark, warm … like some lost German record from the late 70s” by Complex Distractions. His 2nd album Omnibus is a collection of early recordings and was released on Seattle’s Medical Records label in 2020, which quickly sold out.
Schrock continues to produce new music and has plans for another release soon.
