Hey, my name is James Corder and I'm a musician hailing from Cape Town, South Africa.
I brand myself as an artist but I'm a fan first and foremost. I was born into a household that kneels at the alter of the Big Three: Bob Dylan, Tracy Chapman and Leonard Cohen. From this I launched myself into the massive libraries of music around the world, eventually gravitating towards the behemoths of North American soul, funk and the sprawling nation of jazz (both local and international).
'Like a Fire in the Sun' is my first official release. With this project, I wanted to honour the roots of my musical history whilst simultaneously experimenting with the funk- and soul-infused sound that I want to take to my future projects.
My life has been so often changed and defined by a number of artists in the way that their music has shaped my personal life and the communities around me. My only hope is that I will be able to return the favour.
