James G Barry is a Singer Songwriter born in Brooklyn NY. His first Solo album was called "Wake Up Singing" came from an experience that he had at a Krishna Das performance in the East Village.
"I was chanting along sitting with my back up against a column. The room was really crowded and I was entranced by the harmonium drone. All of a sudden my eyes felt heavy and I fell asleep. I might have been only a few seconds but I was awoken to the sound of my own voice chanting. It was an inexplicable feeling."
James recorded the album at Sand Pile Studios in NYC. It was engineered and produced by Tim Champion from the Hippy Nuts. Guests musicians included Kathena Bryant (also of the Hippy Nuts), Pete Drungle - Keyboards, and Robert A. Johnson from Memphis who played lead on "South Mountain Road." A short ep of the album was released and distributed in Italy through Judge Media and was accompanied by a stripped down acoustic tour.
James is a founding member of Crier Brothers and a regular performer with Empire Vista Social Club. In 2019 James became the music director for "The Show Tonight" which is a NYC based LIVE Comedy Show done in a Late Night TV Format. The Show has a monthly residency at The Bitter End. In 2013 James short film "Sunny Day" debuted at the Art of Brooklyn Film Festival. The video captured street art throughout the east village and Williamsburg and featured an original song by JGB.
