James the Seventh is a self-taught musician, singer, songwriter, and producer from the Philadelphia area. Formerly a full time pre-professional ballet dancer until she got injured and had to undergo surgery in 2020, and had to give it up. During the year she couldn't walk, her dad (a sixth in a line of James), bought her a guitar, which led her into singing, songwriting, and producing. Since entering the music scene in 2021, her sound has expanded and evolved from dream pop to alternative rock, blending a distinct range of vocals and harmonies with introspective lyrics, exploring her inner voice with themes of mental health, angst, and nostalgia.
Currently releasing her debut EP with latest single, Trauma Olympics (Fresh Finds Rock), James' sound ranges from airy, psychedelic indie pop on Unsexy (New Music Friday), to alternative rock, to ska on Mind Your Business.
