Progressive rock keyboardist Jamie Craig was born in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in Livonia, Michigan. His first instrument was the trumpet, which he took up at age seven, influenced by Herb Alpert. By 12, he had switched to tuba, then, at 15, to the bass guitar. Eventually, he branched out to the keyboards, and in the 1980s he recorded three albums of synth pop, Boys, In My Car, and The Rhythm Takes All, that were released on the Detroit-based independent Bad Boy Records. After years of woodshedding, he re-emerged with the progressive rock instrumental album The Lost Dream, released on his own Craig Sound label in January 2008. Tending more toward new age and smooth jazz styles, Illumination followed in September of the following year. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi
