As a pianist, arranger, composer, teacher and inspirator Jan Willem is busy in several musical areas. He is the founder of the Jan Willem van Delft Trio in which gospel and jazz are mixed in a fresh, swinging and original way. He recorded his first record ‘All that Hymns’, released in 2009, with contributions of Jeroen Vrolijk (drums), Mark Dekkers (bass) and Sharon Kips (vocals). In 2011 he recorded his second album ‘In Zijn aanwezigheid’ (In His presence), a piano solo album. During the Corona pandemic he recorded 'Be Still My Soul', an acoustic jazz-gospel trio CD with The Creative Collective Trio. In 2023 this trio released 'Through Our Hands'. Together with jazz-singer Henk Kraaijeveld he started The Christmas Project. They recorded their first album 'Comfort and Joy' in 2024.
Other projects/bands: Janine Beens, bigband The Convocation, blackgospelchoir Gospel Boulevard and De Oden van Salomo.
For different artists and bands he played, composed and arranged around 100 records, including Gerald Troost, Sharon Kips, Janine, Gospel Boulevard, Shirma Rouse, Henk Kraaijeveld, Marcel & Lydia Zimmer, Rob Favier, The Convocation, De Oden van Salomo, Linda Wagenmakers and Ronduit Praise Band.
The importance of passing on music to new generations is highly valued by Jan Willem. As an inspirator he is personal piano coach in his studio and shares his personal experiences in life and music at meetings, schools, churches.
