Grown up in a house with more pianos than rooms, Jan-Willem opted for a more portable instrument - flute - in primary school. Later he switched to guitar and ukulele. After many voluntary hours in music therapy at the refugee center in Almelo, The Netherlands, he recorded some songs, including an acoustic version of Wonderful Life, recorded at the chapel ‘Uit Liefde’ in the village of Lonneker, known for its exceptional acoustics.
