Jax Urban emerged in 2020 with his debut single “Won’t Run” while delivering a versatile style that blends the elements of emo rap, cloud rap, R&B, punk, rock, and trap, with echoes of Post Malone and the late Juice WRLD.
Born Alwin Lim Yan Jie in 2001 and raised in Singapore, Jax Urban was still a teenager when his rap career started. Having faced a troubled childhood, Jax would often find peace in music. This was when Jax discovered his biggest inspiration, Eminem, who opened up the world of Hip-Hop for him. Seeing how Eminem’s music had helped Jax live through the difficulties of his childhood, he was inspired to do the same and make music that would resonate with others. Jax Urban continued to explore different genres and eventually, he found his sound.
On March 20, 2020, Jax Urban’s debut single “Won’t Run” was released. The track was quick to be noticed by popular YouTuber Tommy Craze who then featured “Won’t Run” on his largest Spotify playlist. Just two months later, “Won’t Run” caught the attention of the award-winning adult film star Leah Gotti who was mentioned in the song’s lyrics. Since the release of “Won’t Run”, the track had garnered over 100,000 streams online in just two months. The success of the debut single set the scene for "Lust", which received support from Los Angeles' Hype Off Life magazine. With Jax Urban's undying desire to grow as an artist, he displayed his versatility and creativity with his song "WITH YOU" and latest release, “TELL ME”.
