Jay Smith

A classic singer songwriter, heavily influenced by the pioneering artists of 60’s and 70’s. Jay appears to write with true integrity, like he means it and has a rare gift when delivering a lyric or phrase. Well crafted lines revealing the raw and often tender aspects of life are his stock in trade but equally when he meanders off that familiar road he cuts it just as well with foundation shaking 70’s R&B inspired rock. Unsigned and therefore uncompromising, Jay glides effortlessly between Rock, Blues, Folk and even Jazz. His more famous Tyneside counterparts, Sting and Mark Knopfler are no doubt running through his musical DNA but that only serves to raise the already high bar for this Northern England based songwriter. His most recent album, The Greyline Sessions, is brilliant. More recently however he seems to favour releasing singles much like his musical hero's did in an era when singles made financial sense. Those days are gone for independent artists perhaps but undeterred, @Little Box Of Memories, @Another Lifetime and @Long Tim Coming are simply beautiful.
