Jazz July is a music project by rural Michigan native Jeff Ayling. Inspired sonically by the likes of <a href="spotify:artist:7gjAu1qr5C2grXeQFFOGeh" data-name="Passion Pit">Passion Pit</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:7sgWBYtJpblXpJl2lU5WVs" data-name="Electric Guest">Electric Guest</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4l1cKWYW591xnwEGxpUg3J" data-name="Miike Snow">Miike Snow</a>, and lyrically by Isaac Brock (<a href="spotify:artist:1yAwtBaoHLEDWAnWR87hBT" data-name="Modest Mouse">Modest Mouse</a>) and Scott McMicken (<a href="spotify:artist:4mLJ3XfOM5FPjSAWdQ2Jk7" data-name="Dr. Dog">Dr. Dog</a>), Jazz July strikes a balance between catchy electro-pop instrumentals and cathartic, introspective lyrics.

The name is a bit of a misnomer, leading to some confusion for those expecting a smooth jazz experience. The name Jazz July is actually based off of a poem by Gwendolyn Brooks entitled “We Real Cool”. One standout line states “We Jazz June. We Die soon.”
