J’DEMUL is a 22-year-old rapper from St. Louis who wants to tell you where he’s from. He started rapping at only 12 years-old, after witnessing his cousin get murdered. The act of crafting verses and creating songs became therapeutic for J’DEMUL, who used rap as a stress reliever to deal with the violent circumstances that surrounded him. As a child, he sharpened his pen, absorbing the gut-wrenching tales told by legendary rappers like Scarface, The Notorious B.I.G., and Lauryn Hill. Over the years he developed his own rap-style, which is highly detailed and matter-of-fact, creating his own form of reality rap.
In 2016 he dropped his breakout mixtape #STLAVE, a project that featured what has been acclaimed as his best work thus far, for the way it captured the monotonous nature of everyday neighborhood violence.
“That was the mixtape I was truly myself on," J’DEMUL says. I was really going through it during the whole writing process. Writing and recording that album was my only way of not losing it.”
J’DEMUL is back in the lab, working on his next project, 17TH, which will be released in 2018. On the project, you’ll hear him using unorthodox flows and cadences, while making sure that his lyrical sharpness and his gripping, authentic subject matter maintains.
