Born on the rugged shores of South Africa and fine-tuned in the heart of San Diego, California. Jean Morrison is an aural storyteller whose alt rock melodies reverberate with the complexities of life. Influenced by the raw energy of Nirvana and the poetic depth of Jeff Buckley, Morrison’s sound stands at the crossroads of rebellion and artistry.
His career ignited at an open mic in South Africa, meeting Farryl Purkiss and eventually collaborating with his childhood hero Dave Birch, guitarist for the 1979 hit "Video Killed The Radio Star." Birch produced Morrison's debut EP 'F.A.W.E' in 2008, earning him critical acclaim.
By 2015, Morrison made his mark globally. 'Cardboard Skies' reached finals in both the USA and International Songwriting Competition, gaining airtime on AXS TV and radio playlists.
Facing the devastating loss of his father just before the pandemic, Morrison found strength in the lyrics of Frightened Rabbit —"There is light, but there's a tunnel to crawl through, there is love, but its misery loves you." Fuelled by this newfound resolve, Morrison is primed to deliver his most personal project to date—a ten-track studio album set for release in February 2024. Orchestrated by the ever-loyal Dave Birch, the album’s inaugural single "Overcoated" pledges to ruffle a few feathers.
In a predictable world, Morrison's music serve as poignant reminders that the road less traveled often yields the most unforgettable stories and explorative soundscapes.
