Jeano Elong is a Cameroonian singer and songwriter. His style is danceable, eclectic and political, influenced by both African and European influences. After working in Tripoli for many years, he fled from the war in Libya in 2011. In 2013, he came to Hamburg, Germany and became part of a refugee protest movement called ‘Lampedusa in Hamburg’. Since 2014, he has been working with the agitprop collective Schwabinggrad Ballett & Arrivati, and on the album ‘Beyond Welcome’ (Buback Records) he sings the refugee anthem ‘Don't Fuck Up’, among other songs. ‘I played the album for my mother in Cameroon,’ Elong recalls. ‘She said: That's nice, but I don't understand what you're singing. My mother doesn't speak French or English. So I started writing songs in my language, Bakaka.’ These songs are on his debut album, Jâbeâ.
