Singer/songwriter Jeff Chelf's music searches for a place to land amongst a swarm of
influence. His upcoming album, Western Mountain State, reflects the unrooted nature of
Jeff's life examined from his current home in Colorado after moves through Wisconsin,
North Carolina, South Africa, Pennsylvania and Michigan. The album mixes the lofi
charm of Dan Reader and Daniel Johnston, the experimental tones of the Flaming Lips,
and the indie vibes of Christian Lee Huston. Western Mountain State is his first release as
a musician after a decade long career as a visual artist.
Jeff's return to music was facilitated by a hearing loss diagnosis that created a sense of
urgency within the artist - music was now time sensitive.Western Mountain State is therefore the generative start of further music, further collaborations, and an impulse to explore a fleeting sense of hearing.
