Singer-songwriter pianist Jeffery Straker grew up taking piano lessons in a small farming town in Saskatchewan and has gone on to perform over 100 shows per year across Canada, Europe and Latin America. Serving up a rootsy-storytelling brand of song with rich narratives, his song writing has the ability to transport a listener-out onto a lake in Canada’s North or to the main street of a prairie town. Across 8 albums to date critical comparisons have been drawn to the likes of Kris Kristofferson, Murray McLauchlan & Harry Chapin while performances have seen him live on BBC radio (UK), in concert with symphony orchestras and on festival and theatre stages. Named 'Roots-Folk Artist of the Year' in consecutive Saskatchewan Music Awards Jeffery has also been honoured with a Western Canadian Music Award.
He released his 10-song album “Just Before Sunrise” in 2021, followed by a collection of 5 tracks from that album, re-recorded acoustically (“Just After Sunset” Oct 2022).
His latest 10-song album 'Great Big Sky' (June 7, 2024) was produced by Steve Dawson at The Henhouse Studio in Nashville TN. Inspired by the wide-open endless panorama of the Saskatchewan sky it delivers a folk-roots singer-songwriter flavour rich in prairie themes and imagery. It's all brought to life in Straker’s signature storytelling style. Notable players include: Fiddle, mandolin, harmonica-Fats Kaplin (Nanci Griffith); Drums-Jamie Dick (Allison Russell, Rhiannon Giddens).
