Jess Carreira (they/she) is a queer musician residing in Philadelphia, PA. Originally from rural Western Kansas, Jess grew up around country music and culture, although it was never something they identified with or related to. Since discovering their queer identity, as well as finding a love for classic country (from the likes of Loretta, Tammy, and of course, Dolly) Carreira found a reclamation of her roots and felt a pull to recreate this sound through a queer lens. Inspired by ‘60s country songwriting and style with licks of modern production, they weave a tapestry of worlds tied together with mesmerizing vocals. Her first and newest release “Heartland Express” tells a story of growth and
finding oneself as they leave one chapter behind and travel into one of their own self-discovery. This EP features the first songs Jess has written, and they don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. She plans to continue to write and create within this mashup of genres to tell new stories and new beginnings.
