Hi, I'm Jesse Rivest. I'm a singer-songwriter and guitarist split-based between the capital of Brazil and my hometown, Kelowna, British Columbia. I've lived around the world for nearly 20 years, writing and producing songs while drifting in and out of local music scenes.
My longest residencies outside of Canada were in New Zealand and Brazil, although I've also passed time in Australia and Argentina. My first album, Seventeen Oh-Two Oh-Six, was partially written in Australia, where I backpacked around with my guitar and took up whatever microphone or campfire would have me. I was keen and new to the troubadour thing and often slept with my guitar in a two-man tent. In New Zealand, I ended up living seven years in Wellington and would occasionally make little trips down to Motueka and Golden Bay to visit friends and play gigs or shows. I formed a trio and called us J.R. and the Rec(ent) Dev(elopment)s; my Everyelsewhere - EP has off-the-floor recordings of us along with other friends sprinkled in. It wasn’t until many years after arriving in Brazil that I could produce another recording—first I had to learn Portuguese and make friends, etc. Eventually, I made a saturated rock EP with some music school colleagues and called it The D.G.B. EP. (DGB was a trio formed by my colleagues).
When the pandemic hit, I started producing singles. I did that for a few years, then released a warm, wintry LP called Distant December, which I toured in Canada in 2023. That’s me; how about you?
