Hi,
I’m Jessica Star and this is my music! I’m originally from Oakland, California. I’ve been singing all of my life. I started writing songs in the early 90’s. I was living in Portland, Oregon back then studying ballet and modern dance at The Oregon Ballet Theater. I would hear the original songs in my head and write them down. I learned to play guitar to accompany myself. I travelled down to northern California, started a band and played shows relentlessly around Marin and Sonoma counties. I made my first album with the producer of the Grateful Dead (Working Man’s Dead) and a host of legendary musicians. I got really into Janis Joplin at that time and used to do some of her songs at almost every show. Eventually my desire to live in NYC became so strong, I had to relocate. That was twenty years ago. I love it here. I find this place helps me focus and keep driving my music dream. Since I’ve been in New York, I’ve recorded and released, “Mystical Creature”, found and played steampunk and faerie festivals as well as NYC venues such as The Bitter End, BB King’s ‘Lucille’s’, The Knitting Factory,The Red Lion and the legendary Turning Point in Piermont, NY.
I hope you listen and enjoy my music. My songs are my life’s work.
More to come!
