Jheff Mahzil

Jheff Mahzil is a Reggae Singer & Musician from Bougainville Island, Papua New Guinea.

He appreciates all Reggae genres but has a particular focus on Roots Reggae Music and lifestyle. His music and life have influenced by Bob Marley and the Jamaican Roots Reggae lifestyle. His music is Roots Reggae fused with South Pacific Islands Reggae & Music.

Jheff's songs echo his experiences in the aftermath of the Bougainville War. This 10-year conflict on Bougainville Island from 1989 to 1999 resulted in about 20,000 lives being lost in a bloody civil war between Bougainvillean Rebels and the Papua New Guinea Millitary.

Jheff started out his Musical career with his band "Jheff & the Royal Hymnz" who were members of his family and small island community from where he comes from, Saposa Island in the northern part of Bougainville.

In 2019 he joined the Offsprings Band as lead singer and took part in creating awareness and bringing forth positive messages of freedom, peace and unity to the people of Bougainville in the aftermath of the war and the the struggle for Independence and normalcy on the island.

He is also passionate about the struggles and freedom of other fellow Melanesians who have experienced similar struggles like Bougainville, especially the people West Papua.

Jheff hopes his music can develop further and continue to bring forth the messages of respect, peace, love, unity and freedom to Bougainville, the Pacific, and to the World.
