An admired soloist, chamber musician, and teacher, flutist Jill Felber is well known for her involvement with contemporary music, and for commissioning and performing new works for her instrument. A student of Keith Bryan, Judith Bentley, and James Galway, Felber earned her degrees from the University of Michigan and Bowling Green State University; taught at Ohio University, Capital University, and Wright State University; and held several international residencies. For six seasons she performed with the Detroit Contemporary Ensemble, and collaborated with many composers, including Lukas Foss, Gunther Schuller, George Rochberg, and William Bolcom, among many others. She has toured extensively with Claudia Anderson in the flute duo, ZAWA!, and performed at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, and many academic venues. In the 1990s, Felber joined the faculty of the University of California, Santa Barbara as professor of flute and director of the wind program, and also became principal flutist with the Santa Barbara Grand Opera.
