Born and raised in Motown Detroit, singer-songwriter Jill Govan brings a fresh perspective to soul music. Pairing lush vocals with compelling stories and acoustic-driven grooves, the result is an eclectic sound reminiscent of artists like John Legend, Lianne La Havas and Norah Jones.
Growing up in the church, Jill began singing in the youth choir and writing songs at age 11. She rounded out her talent when she picked up the guitar as a 19-year-old student at Wayne State University.
Since then, Govan honed her style performing at venues and festivals across Metro Detroit including Detroit River Days, Arts, Beats and Eats and the Royal Oak Taco Fest. In 2020, she released her debut EP Smell the Roses, a mix of coffee shop acoustic tunes and folk-soul melodies. With her latest project set to release summer of 2025, Jill seeks to showcase her passion for creating authentic music with a message.
