Maryland-based artist Jinsune explores the modern pop scene through its many notable sub-genres including hyperpop, indie pop, and trap pop. Heavily inspired by hyperpop figureheads in the US and pop artists in Asia, Jinsune fuses a variety of elements in his songs through contagious-melodic filled choruses and sporadic beats, highlighted by high-energy releases such as Best Lies and Wasted.
Born in Washington, D.C. in 1999, Joel Zhang began recording music out of the garage of childhood friend and longtime collaborator, Matthew Williams. Raised with an identity deep-rooted in his Chinese and Japanese heritage, Jinsune soon became the perfect moniker for Zhang to express himself musically; Jin- deriving from the Chinese character for gold and -Sune stemming from the Japanese folklore name Kitsune. The name ties into Jinsune’s overall motivation: a free spirit serving as inspiration for future generations of aspiring Asian artists.
