Joan Velasquez is a singer-songwriter from Bulacan who began her journey in 2020. What started as an outlet for personal struggles soon grew into something bigger. She realized that art is not just about carrying one’s own baggage, but about creating space for others too—that it should not serve the privileged, but reach the lives of the people.
Her early dreams of becoming an art administrator now feel far away, replaced by a deeper purpose: to keep learning, to admit her mistakes, and to use music as a platform for reflection and awareness.
In her first year, Joan released her debut EP Black Hole, which reached more than 50,000 streams in a month, a milestone for an underground artist. Her music quickly found a place in editorial charts alongside artists like Moira dela Torre, Janine, and Ylona Garcia.
In 2023, one of her songs was featured in the Cinemalaya film Tether, while her piece Dad, I Found Peace in Being Mad at You reached readers who connected with its honesty. Her sound, often described as a mix of indie pop and folk, is both intimate and atmospheric—songs like Sirang Kaluluwa and Pahinga, Sa Panaginip Lang Pala capture her ability to turn vulnerability into strength.
Today, Joan continues to perform in small shows around Bulacan and NCR. Her music doesn’t try to be loud or grand, it stays true, warm, and honest, resonating with listeners who find comfort in her voice.
