“Joanlee” is an artist/songwriter who is born and raised in Long Beach, CA. He grew up in a very diversed community in the urban inner city of the “East Side” LBC, where he was able to be influenced by all the different genre’s of music. Being from “LBC” & living only blocks away from “Snoop Dogg” & “Warren G” during the 90’s, he gravitated towards Hip/Hop-Rap, R&B, Reggae because he could relate to the story telling.
“I gravitated towards the story tellers of Hip-Hop/Rap, like 2pac & Nas. I understood it because I saw it happening in my own neighborhoods and friends and family. Growing up in the hood, you also relate and know the street culture and slangs. So once I learned how to rhyme & reason and decipher lyrics, I was hooked from there. It's like modern day poetry to me and I’m just trying to tell my story.”
After learning how to play different instruments from his cousins & peers, he honed his skills by performing at many open mics and local clubs to get his exposure. That then led him to pursue music even further by attending LBCC & learning the music business. After learning how to record, finding his own style and sharpening his pen game for his own music and as a songwriter.
He’s studied under many well known songwriter’s, producers & engineers and has applied everything he’s learned to now stand on his own independently.
He now owns his indie label “Wavey Collective” and is currently releasing music from the label.
