Joel Danell

Joel Danell is a Swedish composer whose work often comes with an acoustic and analog expression, stemming from a playful and peculiar approach to melody, harmony and timbre.

This likely comes from his diverse sources of inspiration, where he has a panoramic view of the world, with a certain fondness for the foreign, the strange and the forgotten. In this view, Danell has found a creative partner in his frequent collaborator <a href="spotify:artist:3uFRl78wU8TX3gEkyvTmJF" data-name="Andreas Tengblad">Andreas Tengblad</a>.

A musical upbringing led Danell to an early affection for jazz. After studying upright bass for a number of years, followed by a 10-year stint as a touring jazz musician, his compositional work started taking up more of his time.

In 2007, he started writing piano music for the group <a href="spotify:artist:6ld45E426cWmpNVKMX413P" data-name="Musette">Musette</a>. This led to his first motion picture score, which since has become his main focus. Danell was awarded SKAP’s award for instrumental music in 2017.
