Featured on Gary Vee's playlist and music blogs, Joey is an M&A consultant at a Big 4 professional services firm - and rap freestyler. His style mixes his aspirations with raw, educated perspectives into the hip-hop genre.
Born and raised throughout the 818 San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, Joey is fond of the Golden age of 90s hip-hop. He began freestyling at 10 years old, influenced by legends like Eminem, 2Pac, and Jay-Z. He used freestyling to cope with the adversities of growing up in financial hardship and his split family upbringing.
Inspired by his older brother Johnny to pursue higher education as a means for greater life opportunities, Joey went to UCLA for his BA (he actually hates economics classes). Joey focused on professional development while often playing pickup basketball at Wooden and recording late-night "Honey Jack & Coke" crunk freestyles with the boys (shoutout Midvale 415!), hoping someday he can invest more time on his dream of creating hip-hop songs.
After boomeranging to Charlotte, NC and working for 5 years at BofA, he got his full-time MBA at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan (Go Blue!). In 2020, Joey Abram started work as a consultant in LA while also releasing his inaugural album Substance. Leaning into his dual reality of business and music, the moniker Joey Economics was born.
