On Joey Stradiot’s 20th birthday, his ship sailed from the Republic of Congo to Gran Canaria.
What was meant to be a ten-day pit stop at dry dock turned into a three month stay after one of the ship’s propellers fell off. Stranded in the Canary Islands with little to do and a bare-bones crew to cook for, Joey spent every day at Castillo de la Luz, a public rose garden, drinking orange and ginger tea and writing "The Songs that Spanish Gardens Sing," a poetry collection that circulated among the crew.
For the first time in over a decade, these songs and poems are in circulation again as Joey Stradiot’s debut album, "The Captain’s Daughter" as well as the forthcoming follow-up companion album "Songs that Spanish Gardens Sing."
Joey's third album, "Hymns of Praise & Lamentation," is compiled from poems written during his travels through the Balkans. It is slated for release sometime before June 1, 2026.
