'80s music and old school video games aren't necessarily the creative playgrounds one would expect to find a millennial reckoning with the onslaught of young adulthood in 2021, yet for pop singer/songwriter/producer, Jogïr, the intersection of these two entities served as fertile ground for inspiration on his debut album.
The ten-song, aptly titled 'Neon' was created over a span of four years and explores the artist's "quarter-life crisis from hell," soundtracked by fluorescent '80s synths, propulsive beats, and visceral lyrics drawing from a range of influences including Corey Hart, Air Supply, and Janet Jackson all the way to Stranger Things, Relient K, and The Legend of Zelda. Behind the bright colors and sticky melodies lies potent, personal songwriting detailing the story a millennial struggling to find his way and make peace with himself. Stories of envy, inner turmoil, and insecurity are presented through the lens of a video game narrative meant to render the experiences more surreal yet relatable.
