Johannes Faustus was a lyric-oriented, kind of esoteric Finland-based art rock project/band who released three albums and did live performances now and then, mixing progressive and psychedelic elements with more straightforward approach. Their debut album Johannes Faustus (2012/2013) received limited but extremely positive response. A live band was then formed, with occasional lineup changes. The second release W (2015) again got some praise, but the band remained an underground act. The third album Astia (2018) not only brought to a close a Goethe-inspired Faustian trilogy, but showcased a solid four-piece rock group that took the music of Johannes Faustus to a new level. After three albums, the band continued as a trio and recorded the experimental Aufklärung (2019), followed by two-song single Valo (2020)--their musical testament, their swan song.
