John Burnette is a Singer/Songwriter and guitarist from Little Rock, AR currently based in Nashville, TN. Raised in Mtn. View, Arkansas, the self-proclaimed “Folk Music Capital of The World”, he began playing music at a young age. Burnette toured professionally following high school, and received a full scholarship to the University of Arkansas where he earned a bachelor’s degree in music with an emphasis on jazz guitar and composition. He performed regionally with several artists including jazz legends Clark Terry, Bob Dorough, and Pharoah Sanders as well as indie rock groups and songwriters; and was set to pursue a doctorate in Music at the University of New Orleans.
When a family tragedy put plans on hold, John took a hiatus from performing until a chance encounter with folk icon, John Prine, in an informal writing circle in Burnette’s hometown. Prine encouraged him to continue writing and performing.
Burnette released his self-titled first album in 2016 which was warmly received by the independent music blogging community and sync catalogues. While lending his talents as a guitar player to artists including Nashville favorites, Matt Stell and Charlotte Leigh, and co-producing the album Show Me Home by Townsend; he released the album Parlor One in late 2019. After a stint working as a Carpenter during the pandemic, John resumed writing and session/production work. In April of 2024 he began recording the forthcoming album, release date TBD.
