John loves telling stories through music. That is, after all, the primary goal of a song: to evoke emotion through a story.
His musical endeavors started like most 13 year olds: with an electric guitar playing and writing pop punk songs in a friend’s garage. Those early formative years he still reflects on when it comes to composition. Structure, melody, and harmony were ingrained in him from the earliest days.
It wasn’t until 2016, though, at the age of 23 that John started taking music more seriously, when Vanderlyle was formed in Philadelphia, PA. An indie-pop band with a knack for melodic guitar, rock drums, and modern production, Vanderlyle made a strong statement in the Philly and New York live music scenes, debuting lead singles Just a Friend and Breaking Through, as well as a stellar debut EP Blizzard of '96 to follow.
2019 saw John focusing on composition and orchestral music production, channeling his wider musical interests in the instrumental genres. John’s desire to release music in the compositional and ambient worlds were heavily inspired by the likes of Helios, Lights & Motion, and Tracey Chattaway, whose influences can be heard on the release of his debut single “Loved Ones” (November 2019) follow up "Rise", and the more meditative electronic-synth driven single "Time Pass". The fall of 2020 saw “Lines in Motion” released, John’s most fully produced track to date, starting a discovery of a core sound in cinematic synth and piano-driven post rock.
