John Secondino is the project of singer/songwriter Alfonso Subiotto Marqués. His music is inspired by and revolves mainly around Folk.
Alfonso grew up in Brussels, Belgium, where he started playing along to Iron Maiden songs on the guitar at the age of 12. After a failed stint as the lead vocalist of Insane Asylum (a heavy metal band comprised of 14-year-olds) due to repeatedly forgetting the words to the songs, Alfonso became interested in bands like Arctic Monkeys and The Killers and began learning their songs on acoustic guitar.
This shift in musical interest slowly led to an interest in artists like The Tallest Man On Earth and Fionn Regan, which accompanied him to Brown University, where he started as a freshman in 2012. At Brown, Alfonso began writing and performing his own music thanks to student-led groups, culminating in performing at the Brown Folk Festival in 2015.
After the Folk Festival, Alfonso decided to chill out a bit and focus on other things. As a resident of New York City, Alfonso records occasional covers on his laptop when he feels like it and original songs when he meets recording artists in the elevator while going about his non-musical business.
Recently, Alfonso had such an elevator encounter, leading to the production of his first single and adoption of his middle name as his artist name.
