John Sturino is a Juilliard-trained composer, drummer, percussionist, and educator based in New York, New York.
Sturino is the bandleader of BLOW GLOBE, a 10-piece ensemble that melds the sonorities of instrumental jazz and classical with the ethos of contemporary electronic and songwriter musics. Their eponymous debut album is set to be released on June 6th, 2025, on Outside In Music label. Sturino and BLOW GLOBE were awarded the Chamber Music America New Jazz Works Commission Grant in 2024.
Sturino has established himself as regular among the New York City jazz and big band/large ensemble scenes, having played regularly with the Robert Edwards Big Band, Jihye Lee Orchestra, and the bi-annual Jazz Composers Showcase at The Jazz Gallery.
In addition to performing, Sturino maintains an active schedule as a music educator, having led masterclasses throughout the United States, Australia, Colombia, Cayman Islands, and China. Sturino is a regular faculty member at the Stanford Jazz Workshop and maintains a private lesson studio both in-person and virtually.
Sturino graduated from The Juilliard School with an Artist Diploma, having studied with Ben Wolfe, Billy Drummond, and Paul Wells. Formerly, Sturino graduated from the University of North Texas with an M.M. in Jazz Composition and a B.M. in Jazz Drumset. Sturino is a Yamaha Drumset Artist, Prologix Artist, Zildjian Educational Artist, and Vic Firth Educational Artist.
