Johnny Petunia is the project of Philadelphia based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist John Ryan. After helming rock quartet Petunia for 3 years, Johnny decided to go it alone and work with producer Joe Michelini (American Trappist, River City Extension) on a new album entitled Never Be Apart. Carrying over his 70’s power pop influences (Badfinger, the Raspberries), Johnny sought to incorporate elements from synth-pop’s past (The Cars, The Human League) and present (Wild Nothing, Angel Olsen) into his sound. The theme of fear runs through the album’s ten songs, from personal fears of regret, self-doubt, and losing loved ones to storybook fears of haunted houses. Coupling this theme with a genre blend of power pop, synth pop, and alt-country, Never Be Apart is Johnny’s most varied, accomplished, and relatable collection of songs he’s produced to date.
