Growing up in Encinitas raised on music, art, surfing and tacos. Tate Sanderson aka.
Johnny Rock, “if you knew him, you never saw him without a guitar or with a haircut”. He
would attend surf P.E. in the morning then turn in a song he wrote for credit in English class
later in the day. His surf-punk band The Pumps played all the wildest weekend parties in the
county.
Graduation day he rolled out of town Hollywood bound. A dream, a guitar and a lot of
ambition tossed him onto the highway of life, touring the U.S., Mexico and over in Japan as
guitarist/songwriter for Saints We Ain’t rock group. MTV used to play music videos back in the
day and there was Tate on Head-Bangers Ball in rock group Dirty Looks on Sony/Rockworld
Records. The video “One Bad Leg” was filmed in Encinitas and Del Mar.
Johnny has played, performed and recorded with amazing musicians from band including;
Green Jello, Fishbone, Iron Butterfly, Black Flag, Tesla, The Motels, Lizzy Borden, Flock of Seagulls, Beebs
Money…it would take a whole page to mention all. Johnny Rock endorses and has support from
Dean Guitars, Orange Amps, Jim Dunlop, Trust Me Vodka, Anvil of Hope, Alesmith Brewing Co.
and Encinitas Surfboards whom provides us with plenty of swag for the fans.
