A product of rap’s golden era, Jon Jr hails from Long Island, NY and was influenced early on by the likes of Rakim, Kool G Rap, and Big Daddy Kane. More of a battle rapper throughout his teenage years, it wasn’t until he relocated to Connecticut on an athletic scholarship, that he began to incorporate his real life experiences into his lyrics. Whether dealing with the stresses of collegiate life, newly formed associations, or operating outside of the law, Jr mastered the ability to paint a perfect picture for his listeners. Double Jeopardy, although released in 2019, is a “period piece” completed throughout 2005 and based on Jr’s experiences in the late 90’s, a young black male in a new environment trying to find himself. Fans of Fabolous, Pusha T, Westside Gunn will find themselves right at home with this album.
