While normally uncomfortable speaking of himself in the Third Person, JP has been a working actor since the age of eight, when he was cast in a production of a Brecht play at the Yale Repertory Theater. He also began writing songs at roughly the same time period, obsessed with music his entire life.
Walker was in several bands in high-school, as well as in college (at Carnegie Mellon), where he studied acting. After graduation he moved to New York City, acquiring an agent and a waitering job in the West Village, while continuing to write songs for pleasure.
As his acting career began to bear fruit—Broadway, off-Broadway and regional theater gigs, work in Televsion, indie film and voice-overs—the songwriting mostly dried up. It wasn’t until the death of his (my) beloved mother in 2011 that he (I) rediscovered his passion for writing —and recording—songs. He found an outlet and expression of his grief recording a full-length album of original tunes (2013’s “The Guilty Party”) in Nashville, working with the brilliant and legendary producer Roger Moutenot.
In the years since, Jon has continued to write, record and release music at a break-neck pace—over 70 original songs—all, on some level, in tribute to his mother and her love of Song.
Jon continues to find work as an actor, but waiting tables is still the fall-back option.
