There aren’t many people who have done as much for Portugal’s drum and bass scene as Jon Tho (or more commonly known as Joao Fragoso). From directing eyes towards the country’s underappreciated scene through his productions and role as founder of Surveillance Music, to playing his craft alongside Yellow Stripe – a crew who spent years setting the standard for D&B parties in Portugal – this artist has worked hard to cement his name in the culture, particularly in Porto.

If you’re not familiar with the name, then maybe you’re acquainted with his previous alias, Fragz, which was a staple of the neurofunk niche for many years. But as Jon Tho, this artist’s story is entering a fresh chapter free from genre expectations. While Fragz used to be geared towards the dancefloor, Jon Tho is all about creating accessible music for the masses, with the same sound design magic and Portuguese flair he has always flooded into his productions. After more than a decade in the scene, Jon Tho is only just getting started.
