Alternative pop singer/songwriter Jonathan Balas was born and raised in Los Angeles, briefly studying piano before moving to guitar as a teen. His parents later bought him a four-track recorder, and after cutting his first three-song demo, the 18 year old relocated to Seattle to intern at Robert Lang Studios. From there Balas moved on to Nashville, where the band <a href="spotify:artist:1TxqBnbeh0ej7xdNEKk66K">Exit East</a> recorded his song "I Will Save You." Capitalizing on the then-current MySpace craze, Balas scored a word-of-mouth Internet hit in late 2005 with an MP3 of his song "California Here I Go."
