With his infectious brand of twang-tinted, emotionally infused songwriting, Jonathan Freeland is not afraid to define himself as an emerging powerhouse in modern storytelling. With humble beginnings just outside of Atlanta, GA, he was raised on the sounds of classic country greats to the golden years of mid 2000s pop-punk and emo. Whether it was long toss before the big game or hauling hay across the pasture, these songs were the soundtrack to his life long before he ever had the desire to pick up a guitar. So how does someone from a small town in Georgia go from touring the country in a Broadway show back to his southern roots?
By keeping it real.
“I never felt truly authentic re-telling someone else’s story, so when you hear a song from me, it’s really 100% who I am.” Freeland's lyricism leaves no stone unturned and brings a refreshing twist to some of the genre’s most noted subjects - life, love, and sometimes, a little too much whiskey. “I’ve always known that I’m ‘too country for the city and too city for the country,’ and I have a feeling I’m not the only one.” This potent combination of soaring melodic hooks and honest storytelling leave Freeland in a genre of his own.
