Singaporean singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Jonny Ong creates music rooted in psychedelic rock, shaped by instruments and ideas he has picked up from around the world. His work pairs exploratory arrangements with animated visual elements and lyrics centred around storytelling, escapism, and desire.
After the handpan-driven sound of his 2021 album Isolation, Jonny has been reconnecting with the rock music he grew up on. His new material reflects the influence of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and The Doors, as well as the wider culture of the 1960s.
Jonny fronts the rock band Holy Roller and The Smoking Guns, performing regularly at the Formula One Singapore Grand Prix, Zouk Singapore, and on a regional Hard Rock Café tour covering Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, and Bali. Now based in London, he continues to bring the band’s live shows to venues across the city.
His recently released sophomore album, Just Like Yesterday, explores love in its shifting forms and marks the start of a new chapter in his writing.
