At the early age of 6 he began to study the violin with Rosa García Faria and Joan Massià. He furthered his studies in Milan with Franco Tufari and in Salzburg with Eugen Prokop. His compositions cover a wide range of genres and formations: symphony orchestra, string orchestra, chamber music, solo instrumental works, mixed choirs, etc.
His first work for symphony orchestra, Seqüencies sobre una mort (1970) was awarded the Premi Ciutat de Barcelona. Later important works are Vers l´infinit (1982-83), Formes per a una exposició (1999-2000), Divertimento 2002, Ybris (2004-05) and Natura contra Natura (2010). Some of his most notable pieces for orchestra and soloist include Violin Concerto (2002-03) and Concerto di maggio for piano (2010). He has composed many works for string orchestra: Anna Frank, un símbol (1971), Concerto grosso (1973), Lux et umbra (1984-85), Ofrena a Franz Schubert (2012), Santa Clara 1714 (2014), Concertino for violin (1993), Gemini (1998) for violin and cello soloists, etc.
The five string quartets are his most important chamber music compositions: Dos moviments [Two Movements] (1965), Remembrances (1987), A Bach (2004), Etüden nach Kreutzer (2006) and Quartet Sant Petersburg (2010). His works for piano solo and violin solo are also extensive, as well as various duets for violin, cello, oboe or trumpet with piano accompaniment.
