Josh King kicked off his solo career with 2018's ‘Into The Blue’, but the North Carolina-based songwriter is no newcomer. Years before writing with songs that mix the breezy, backwoods bounce of Americana with the hummable hooks of guitar pop, he cut his teeth as the leader of ‘House Of Fools’, an indie-rock outfit signed to Drive-Thru Records. The six-piece band spent years on the road, touring with acts such as Jimmy Eat World and Steel Train along the way.
In 2020 came ‘The Shed’, recorded in the peak of COVID-19 isolation and with it single ‘Man on TV’, a communal track that mixed the all-hands-on-deck harmonies of "We Are the World" with the apocalyptic, rootsy pop/rock of Dawes' “We’re All Gonna Die”. He is now back with his brand new single and working on solo album number 3.
“Mining the influence of soft-spoken tunesmiths like Jackson Browne and Paul Simon." Rolling Stone
"He’s a talented singer-songwriter in the grand North Carolina tradition that also gave us Piedmont Blues, Link Wray, the dB’s, Whiskeytown, Ryan Adams and Polvo."
No Depression
"Rich Americana reminiscent of the likes of Tom Petty and Taylor Goldsmith."
PopMatters
“Neil Young ‘Harvest’ like country thump. King comes across as if he has inhaled all the souls of The Travelling Wilburys. It’s quite magnificent.”
AmericanaUK
"King blends the blunt hard-living storytelling of Patterson Hood and the galloping melodies of Jason Isbell into a walloping punch of rock and country."
